Plant a Seed to Feed Those in Need

Date and time: Saturday April 25, 2015  10:00 am – 12:00pm

Meeting location: Volunteers can meet in the parking lot in front of the garden at the New Beginnings Center. The New Beginnings Center is located at 1399 North Hamilton Parkway, Novato. Ample parking is available in the parking lot.

Project description: Volunteers will be helping to grow healthy food to feed the people in our programs. The food produced by our garden helps to keep the cost of our programs low and is also used in our job training program, The Fresh Starts Culinary Academy. Volunteers will be working on site at our New Beginning Center, a transitional housing program for homeless adults. Garden tasks will vary depending on the day. Some of the tasks volunteers will be asked to complete are listed below:

Weeding

Planting

Turning soil and mixing compost

Planting seed trays for the greenhouse

Spreading mulch

Planting flowers

Harvesting vegetables

Pruning plants

Planting trees

What will be provided: Gardening gloves and tools

What to bring: Wear comfortable clothing in layers, closed-toe shoes that can withstand a little dirt, sun protection such as a hat, and sunscreen as well as a water bottle.

If volunteers want to donate seeds, vegetable starts, garden tools and garden gloves, these items are always accepted.
